Speedway Boulevard/Main Avenue Intersection Improvement Project Begins

On Monday, July 6, 2009, crews from K E & G Construction will begin work to improve the Speedway Boulevard and Main Avenue intersection. When crews begin work on Monday, northbound travel on Main Avenue at the intersection will be shifted to the center turn lane, and the westbound Speedway Boulevard curb lane will be closed to traffic at the intersection. At least one lane of travel in each direction will be maintained at the intersection.

Work hours for the project will be 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled to be complete in early September 2009.

The work will consist of widening the eastside of Main Avenue between Helen Street and Speedway Boulevard to accommodate dual southbound left turn lanes. Improvements also include new underground drainage facilities, new water lines, new sidewalks, new street lights, and new traffic signals.

The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling or walking in this work area. Business access will be maintained. For your safety, please observe all traffic control signage, message boards, and obey reduced speed limits. Watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
