City Of Tucson Announces Contractor To Build Modern Streetcars
Posted: 05/27/2009
The City of Tucson is pleased to announce that Oregon Iron Works (OIW) has been selected to manufacture the modern streetcar vehicles for the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) funded Modern Streetcar Project. OIW is headquartered in Clackamas, Oregon, and is the only American-owned manufacturer of modern streetcar vehicles. OIW was selected by the City of Portland to manufacture 6 modern streetcars for approximately $20 million dollars.
Following a ten-month competitive procurement process led by the City of Tucson, OIW prevailed as the successful offeror. While OIW has been selected to construct the streetcars, they have not been given a notice to proceed. That is expected to occur once the City of Tucson receives the green light from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to move forward on the final design and construction of the streetcar.
