Fourth Avenue Underpass Construction Alert

Posted: 05/06/2009

This is a continuing series of construction alerts that will be issued throughout the construction of the Fourth Avenue Underpass Improvement Project. These alerts will announce construction, detour and closure information as it affects traffic. Motorists are asked to obey all posted speed limit signs within the construction area and be alert for construction crews and personnel working in the area.

PLEASE NOTE: OTHER DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY UNRELATED TO THE 4TH AVENUE UNDERPASS PROJECT MAY ALSO AFFECT TRAFFIC.

On Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, the northbound travel lane of Fifth Avenue will be closed between Broadway and Congress Street. Northbound traffic on Fifth Avenue will be diverted onto eastbound Broadway. Also, the left turn lane of eastbound Broadway, between Herbert Avenue and Fourth Avenue will be closed.

These closures will allow the contractor to complete underground utility work in the area and will require asphalt and concrete removals.

The following traffic impacts remain in effect:

- The Fourth Avenue Underpass is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Fourth Avenue businesses can be reached by using 6th Street.
- Parking is available at the Pennington Street Garage. The entrance to the garage
