Bike Commuter Challenge
Why Should I Participate?
The Bike Commuter Challenge is all about you. We want you to save money, burn calories and win prizes. Helping the environment and reducing pollution is just an added bonus.
Here are a few tidbits to think about:
- Bike commute four days a week on a bike for four miles (one-way) saves 54 gallons of gas annually!
- On average, new bicycle commuters lose 13 pounds in their first year.
We are Challenging you to bike during the month of April. All you need to do is:
- Bike commute to and from a routine destination at least twice a week. Your destination can be your workplace or school. To be eligible to be entered to into our random weekly drawings you must complete a total of 4 trips* a week, which is equivalent to biking round-trip to your destination twice a week.
Want to be entered in the drawing to win the grand prize? If so, you need to bike commute at least 36 trips* during the month of April and log the trips on the PAG Rideshare website.
* A trip is from point A to point B. For example, one trip is from your home to work.
So How Do I Win Prizes?
Last Year's Winner: Matt Swatzell
- To get started, all participants must register with PAG Rideshare at http://www.884ride.org/RidePro/.
- Once registered, click on the “Commute Calendar” and log your bike trip to and from your point of origin. Only the logged bicycle trips will count towards the Bike Commuter Challenge. Be sure to explore the Bike Buddy Match and other resources on the PAG Rideshare website.
Some info and tips on using PAG Rideshare:
- Use Google Maps or a bicycle computer to find out the accurate distance of your one-way bike ride to work. If you bike different routes to and from work, average the distances for a single number. This number is your “Home to Work Distance.”
- You can log a maximum of two trips per day. For each trip logged, PAG Rideshare will use your “Home to Work Distance.”
- It’s okay to skip a day of logging. But don’t forget to log your trips by Sunday.
How does my business get involved?
Businesses of any size can sign up on the PAG RideShare website to create a bike commuter team. Every Monday in April we will post the summary reports of the businesses that have signed-up to let you all know what business have rode the most miles and most trips. The top 5 small (less than 25 employees), medium (26-100 employees), and large (100+ employees) will be awarded a certificate designating your business as a bike friendly business.
